The Supreme Court's Criminal Chamber has issued an unfavorable report on the pardon requested for former Attorney General Álvaro García Ortiz.
The court convicted García Ortiz of revealing reserved tax data belonging to businessman Alberto González Amador, partner of Isabel Díaz Ayuso. The sentence imposed a fine of 7,200 euros and two years of special disqualification from the post of Attorney General. The report, released on Thursday, states that the acts were serious and affected the institutional standing of the Public Prosecutor's Office. The Chamber sees no reasons of justice, equity or public utility to grant the pardon. The Prosecutor's Office, through Lieutenant Prosecutor Ángeles Sánchez-Conde, supported a partial pardon of the remaining disqualification. García Ortiz has already paid the fine and 10,000 euros in compensation. The decision now rests with the Ministry of Justice led by Félix Bolaños.
