Trader arrested for gutka possession in Vellore

Vellore police arrested a 45-year-old trader on Tuesday after seizing around 100 kg of the banned substance gutka from his shop and a rented house.

The arrested person was identified as Mujib Basha, a resident of Vellore who ran a petty shop near the fort complex in Saidapet. Police conducted a surprise check on orders from SP N.U. Sivaraman. Officers found five kilograms of gutka at the shop. Based on his inputs, they seized an additional 95 kg from a rented house in the area. Basha brought the banned items from Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh for retail trade. A case was registered and he was lodged at Central Prison in Vellore. A probe is under way.
