Wiks Castle to stay open after rapid series of decisions

Wiks Castle outside Uppsala can continue its operations as usual after several conflicting messages from Region Uppsala.

About three weeks ago Region Uppsala announced that the castle would end all public activities starting August 1. Chef Rikard Andersson described the message as a hard blow.

Earlier this week an updated message allowed some expanded activities. Less than a day later the region confirmed that operations could continue as normal.

The shifts result from the new Law on Public Sales Activities taking effect on August 1. The law aims to protect private companies from competition by public actors and carries fines of up to 20 million kronor. Region Uppsala is now reviewing its activities until November 1.
