沖縄県読谷村の陶芸家、島袋恒英さん（77）は、壺屋焼の伝統を守るために登り窑を使い続けている。2025年に沖縄県の重要無形文化財保持者に指定された彼は、琉球王国時代からの菊唐草文様を筆で描き、父から受け継いだ蹴回し式のろくろを使用している。資源の減少に直面しながらも、この技法を大切にしている。
