Shigeru Stan Yoshida has begun another around-the-world motorcycle journey at age 84. He is traveling on a Yamaha DragStar 250 cc cruiser, starting from Southern California and heading west toward South America, Europe, and Australia.
Yoshida first circled the globe in 1965 on a Yamaha YDS-3 motorcycle provided by company president Genichi Kawakami. That unsupported solo trip lasted three years and took him through the Americas, the Middle East, and Western Asia. He returned to Japan in 1968 and joined Yamaha, where he later became the inaugural director of the company’s Communication Plaza museum before retiring.
