84歳を迎えた吉田茂（スタン・ヨシダ）氏が、再びバイクでの世界一周の旅を開始した。同氏はヤマハのクルーザー「ドラッグスター250」にまたがり、南カリフォルニアを出発。西へ向かって南米、ヨーロッパ、オーストラリアを巡る予定だ。
吉田氏が初めて世界を一周したのは1965年のことで、当時のヤマハ発動機社長であった川上源一氏から提供された「ヤマハ YDS-3」で旅立った。その単独無補給の旅は3年間に及び、南北アメリカ大陸、中東、西アジアを横断した。1968年に帰国後はヤマハに入社。その後、同社の企業ミュージアムである「コミュニケーションプラザ」の初代館長を務め、定年退職を迎えた。
