US Marshals arrested social media influencers Andrew Tate and his brother, Tristan, in Miami on Saturday after British authorities sought their extradition on charges including rape and trafficking for sexual exploitation, according to the UK Crown Prosecution Service and US officials.
Andrew and Tristan Tate — dual UK-US citizens — were arrested in Miami as British prosecutors moved to bring them to the United Kingdom to face a new set of criminal allegations, according to statements from the UK Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and reporting by major news outlets.
The CPS said it has decided to prosecute Andrew Tate, 39, on multiple charges, including seven counts of rape, three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation, three counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and 19 additional charges involving alleged indecent images of a child and “extreme pornography.” Tristan Tate, 38, faces additional charges including two counts of rape, one count of sexual assault, and three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation, the CPS said.
The case in Britain is separate from the brothers’ long-running legal problems in Romania, where prosecutors have investigated allegations that the pair coerced women into producing pornography. The brothers have denied wrongdoing in connection with the various allegations.
In recent years, Andrew Tate has also built a political and cultural following in some right-wing circles in the United States. The Nation reported, citing prior New York Times reporting, that Tate cultivated relationships with figures in President Donald Trump’s orbit, including Donald Trump Jr. and Barron Trump. The Nation further reported that as Trump prepared to take office in January 2025, his incoming administration pressured Romanian authorities to ease travel restrictions that had previously prevented the brothers from leaving the country.
US extradition proceedings are expected to move through federal court, where a judge will review whether the UK request meets the legal standards required under the treaty process before any final decision is made by the US government.
