Berlin: 15 arrests during nakba demonstration

Around 2,000 people marched in Berlin on May 15 to mark the Palestinian Nakba remembrance day. Police took 15 people into temporary custody.

The demonstration recalled the flight and expulsion of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in 1948. Participants chanted banned slogans and attacks occurred against police officers as well as journalists. One policewoman sustained minor injuries.

Organizers reported 30 injuries caused by the use of pepper spray. Police stated that the arrests were made due to criminal offenses committed during the march.

Similar gatherings also took place in Frankfurt am Main and London. In previous years comparable events in Berlin had repeatedly led to clashes.
