Cash App launches tap-to-pay wand for card holders

Cash App has released a new $25 NFC-enabled wand designed for contactless payments. The device is available now to eligible Cash App Visa Card holders.

Cash App introduced the Cash App Wand on Thursday as the first in a series of physical payment accessories called Cash App Tags. The pearlescent, star-shaped wand allows users to tap to pay at any terminal that accepts Visa contactless payments. The product is limited to Cash App Visa Card holders ages 13 and up. Buyers can purchase it through the app for $25 and activate it by linking it to their existing card. Thomas Templeton, hardware lead at Block, which owns Cash App, said the Wand is a starting point. From clothing to jewelry, almost any item can become a way to pay with this technology, he said. We're looking forward to hearing what our customers want to see next. Additional limited-edition Cash App Tag designs are scheduled for release in the coming weeks. Each Tag includes real-time alerts, fraud monitoring, and app-based lock and unlock features.

Apple's upcoming iOS 27 is set to introduce a feature allowing users to create custom passes for the Apple Wallet app. This will enable tickets and passes from unsupported platforms to appear in the app via scannable QR codes. The update draws inspiration from a similar capability in Google's Wallet app.
