DPR member: state present in people's lives

DPR RI member from the Gerindra Faction, Azis Subekti, assesses President Prabowo Subianto's administration as strengthening the state's role for Indonesia's development acceleration. He highlights measures like budget discipline and social programs directly felt by the public. These policies aim to close gaps and leverage the demographic bonus.

Jakarta – DPR RI Commission II member from the Gerindra Faction, Azis Subekti, states that President Prabowo Subianto's government is taking major steps to accelerate Indonesia's progress. In a written statement on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, he emphasizes strengthening the state's capacity.

"If read in a more complete framework, those steps actually reflect a conscious political choice, expanding the state's engine capacity to pursue acceleration," Azis said.

He views Prabowo's leadership as focusing on sectoral drivers to address lags and secure the demographic dividend. The government is reforming the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN) to plug leaks, including crackdowns in mining, forest areas, and temporary cuts to regional transfers despite their unpopularity.

Investments are directed toward downstreaming natural resources to keep added value and jobs domestically. Moreover, state-owned enterprise (BUMN) assets are consolidated to boost national economic leverage.

Public funds are also channeled into programs like Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) and Red White Village Cooperatives, making development a daily experience for citizens. "This is an effort to make development a daily experience for residents, not just macroeconomic reports," Azis added.

Azis discusses challenges to becoming an advanced nation, including bureaucracy simplification and regional institutional restructuring oriented toward public services. "Simple, certain, and accessible bureaucracy is not just about citizen comfort, but about state legitimacy," he said. He asserts that the state's presence in economic aspects to public services is essential for building public trust.
