An Eskom employee stationed at Kriel Power Station in Mpumalanga was killed in a shooting incident while traveling home from work, with his wife, also an employee, sustaining injuries.
The incident occurred on January 24, 2026, involving a husband and wife who both worked at the Kriel Power Station. They were allegedly attacked en route home, resulting in the husband's death at the scene and his wife being rushed to a hospital for treatment.
Eskom spokesperson Daphne Mokwena confirmed the details, stating that the company is collaborating closely with law enforcement on the investigation. In a statement, Mokwena emphasized the need for restraint from speculation: “We urge the public and media to refrain from repeating unverified claims or speculation, and to allow law enforcement the necessary space to complete their investigation process.” She added that Eskom is providing support to the affected family and staff during this challenging time.
