Management at the Winifred Mandela Precinct Shopping Centre has dismissed reports of an armed robbery or shooting inside the centre.
Centre manager Tshepo Monnamore stated that the incident took place outside the precinct. Suspects attempted to abandon a hijacked vehicle while evading arrest and entered the premises during the pursuit.
Gauteng police reported that Highway Patrol officers spotted the vehicle linked to a case in Norwood. They pursued it to the centre in Sandton where five occupants fled on foot.
Officers arrested one suspect and recovered the vehicle along with signal jammers. Monnamore confirmed the centre is safe and ready to resume normal operations.
