A brutal femicide shocked La Matanza on Tuesday when a truck driver beat his 36-year-old partner and fatally ran her over with his vehicle near the Mercado Central. The victim, Bolivian national María Luzmar Caiti Rivero, died on the spot, while the intoxicated aggressor was detained by neighbors before he could flee.
The incident took place near the Mercado Central, at the intersection of Circunvalación and Del Cultivo streets, in the Buenos Aires province district of La Matanza. According to a three-minute security camera video, the aggressor, identified as G.M.D., got out of his Volvo 420 truck, used to transport bananas, and began beating María Luzmar Caiti Rivero. The footage shows him kicking her, punching her, and throwing objects at her as she tries to defend herself on the ground.
After the physical assault, G.M.D. got back into the vehicle and directly rammed the woman, causing her immediate death. Witnesses saw the scene and, as the man tried to flee, held him until police arrived, alerted by a 911 call from a 43-year-old witness. Upon arrival, officers from the La Matanza Departmental Security Station found the victim lifeless on the asphalt and the suspect with a strong smell of alcohol.
Police sources confirmed that personnel secured the scene, seized the truck, and placed G.M.D. at judicial disposal. The investigation, led by prosecutor Adrián Arribas from the La Matanza Homicide Thematic Instruction Unit, classifies the case as aggravated homicide due to the relationship and gender violence, carrying a life imprisonment penalty. Videos and statements are being analyzed to detect prior violence in the couple, along with toxicological tests and autopsy results.
The file emphasizes the treachery and intentionality of the act, ruling out any accident narrative. The defendant remains in custody awaiting questioning.
