Fibocom launches 5G MiFi solution at MWC 2026

At MWC 2026 in Barcelona, Fibocom unveiled its FG205 module and a 5G MiFi solution powered by the Qualcomm QMB415 platform. This new offering supports the Linux operating system and features customized hardware for wireless broadband applications. The design aims to reduce costs and simplify integration for device manufacturers.

On March 5, 2026, in Barcelona, Spain, Fibocom introduced the FG205 module alongside a 5G MiFi solution built on the Qualcomm QMB415 platform. This platform, which supports the Linux operating system, incorporates a deeply customized hardware architecture with lower memory needs, providing stability for wireless broadband uses.

The QMB415 is based on the Qualcomm SM4450 chipset and streamlines design by cutting unnecessary CPU power and eliminating the GPU, prioritizing network connectivity. Unlike typical 5G SoC platforms that run Android and demand at least 3GB of memory, this Linux-compatible solution operates with just 1GB. Such reductions help lower costs and mitigate risks tied to memory supply and pricing.

To ease upgrades, the FG205 maintains pin-to-pin compatibility with Fibocom's earlier FG180 and FG190 modules, which use the Snapdragon X72 and X75 platforms. This allows manufacturers to switch performance levels without altering circuit board designs, speeding up product iterations.

Fibocom plans to offer the FG205 in various Wi-Fi setups, including Wi-Fi 5, Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E, and Wi-Fi 7, broadening options for mobile broadband products.

Founded in 1999, Fibocom is a Chinese company listed on the A-share (300638.SZ) and H-share (0638.HK) markets. It specializes in wireless communication modules and AI solutions, supporting sectors like robotics, consumer electronics, and intelligent transportation through integrated hardware and software.
