Finance minister proposes Friday as WFH day to save fuel

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that a work-from-home policy on Fridays could save fuel oil without disrupting national productivity. He made the remarks during a meeting at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Friday. The policy is still under discussion and directly monitored by President Prabowo Subianto.

Jakarta – Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa assessed that the government's planned work-from-home (WFH) policy will not disrupt national economic productivity if implemented selectively. He proposed Friday as the WFH day to reduce fuel oil (BBM) consumption due to lower public mobility.

"Nggak (mengganggu), kalau kita pilih dengan cermat. Kalau kita pilih Jumat, jadi pasti ada penghematan BBM berapa persen lah, saya nggak tahu detailnya karena bisa berubah-ubah tergantung harga minyak," Purbaya said when met at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Friday (March 28, 2026).

Purbaya explained that strategic sectors like manufacturing industries and public services would continue normally, as not all jobs can be done remotely. "Kalau untuk produktivitas kan, kalau untuk pabrik-pabrik dan lain-lain yang memang memerlukan kerja terus-menerus, ya nggak harus kan. Terus untuk pelayanan publik ya tetap jalan. Jadi harusnya nggak masalah kalau cuma satu hari saja. Produktivitas kita total nggak akan terlalu terganggu," he added.

Discussions on the WFH policy are ongoing at the government level and directly monitored by President Prabowo Subianto. Purbaya noted that the official announcement will soon be made by Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto.
