Florida woman charged with scamming disabled man on dating app

A Florida woman has been charged after allegedly posing as a domestic violence victim to defraud a disabled man of more than $2,000 through Facebook Dating. Police say Gianna Abel-Venezia admitted the scheme but claimed she did not realize it was illegal.

According to the Marion County Sheriff's Office, Abel-Venezia contacted the victim on Facebook Dating and began speaking with him by phone. She allegedly claimed to be trapped in an abusive relationship and sent photos appearing to show injuries to gain his sympathy. The victim sent her money on multiple occasions without ever meeting her in person.
