Former KTN journalist and wife charged over Syokimau land fraud

A former KTN and NTV journalist and his wife have been charged with 12 counts of fraud linked to a KSh 1.176 billion land deal in Syokimau. They appeared before the Mavoko Law Courts this week and denied the charges.

The prosecution alleges the couple conspired to seize a 3.775-hectare parcel belonging to a logistics firm by forging documents including a fake title deed, a falsified grant and a fabricated deed plan. They are accused of forging signatures of senior officials from the Lands and Survey departments. The journalist faces two additional counts of uttering forged documents after presenting the papers to detectives at the DCI headquarters in June.

The couple, who serve as directors of a firm through which the alleged scheme was carried out, requested lenient bond terms. They cited the need to care for a minor child left unattended. Resident Magistrate Faith Boit directed probation officers to prepare pre-bail reports and adjourned the case to July 9 for review.

The journalist previously worked at Nation Media Group’s Daily Nation, focusing on land transactions and public administration issues.
