Google introduces selfie video for account recovery

Google now lets users regain access to supported accounts by recording and using a selfie video. The feature requires advance setup and includes privacy options.

Users can record a short video of their face looking around as instructed. Google stores the encrypted video on its servers and compares it to future selfies during login attempts.

The option is available only for eligible personal accounts. Workspace accounts, child accounts, and those in the Advanced Protection Program cannot use it.

Google states the video will not be used for other purposes unless users opt in. People can delete the video from account settings at any time.

The company says it has measures to detect deepfakes, though it recommends other recovery methods for high-security needs.
