Gujarat Police detain 501 Bangladeshi nationals in Operation Delta Hunt

Gujarat Police have detained 501 Bangladeshi nationals over the last two days as part of Operation Delta Hunt, a statewide drive against illegal immigration.

The operation began late on Tuesday night and was announced by Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi on Thursday. Authorities are also scrutinising the credentials of over 6,200 other individuals. Sanghavi said police teams used technical surveillance and human intelligence to identify suspected illegal migrants across districts. A majority of those detained were engaged in manual labour in cities including Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Vadodara and Bharuch. Dedicated teams are investigating individuals who provided accommodation or employment without mandatory police verification. The operation remains underway with further enforcement measures continuing across the state. Sanghavi stated that the only response to illegal infiltration is strict action.
