A Texas woman has been convicted of orchestrating the 2020 murder of Alyssa Burkett in Carrollton. Holly Elkins was found guilty of conspiring with her then-fiancé Andrew Beard to kill the mother of his child.
Burkett was shot and stabbed 44 times outside her office on Oct. 2, 2020. Investigators initially focused on Beard, the father of her one-year-old daughter, but later determined Elkins directed the plot. Beard pleaded guilty in 2022 and was sentenced to 43 years in prison in May 2023. He told the FBI that Elkins planned the attack, including his use of dark makeup as a disguise. Elkins was arrested in July 2023. After a one-week trial in April 2024, a jury convicted her on all counts following 90 minutes of deliberation. She received two life sentences in August 2024.
