A 61-year-old man in Azle, Texas, faces a murder charge after authorities say he shot and killed his 25-year-old daughter while attempting to stop a fight between her and her mother on Father's Day.
Charles Tod Brooks stands accused of one count of murder in the death of Rebekah Bailey Brooks. Parker County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a 911 call on Sunday at a residence on Antler Ridge Court.
Investigators determined that Brooks retrieved a handgun, loaded it, and chambered a round before intervening in the altercation. He told authorities the weapon discharged accidentally, striking his daughter in the chest.
Deputies and emergency responders attempted lifesaving measures without success. Brooks remains held in the Parker County Jail on a $2 million bond. The Texas Rangers are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
Sheriff Russ Authier said the office extends its thoughts and prayers to the victim's family and loved ones.
