Former Pittsburgh Steelers player James Harrison stated that switching the playing surface at Acrisure Stadium will not resolve the field's main problems. He cited the high volume of games played there as the core issue.
Harrison spoke recently on the Deebo and Joe podcast. He noted that the stadium hosts more than 25 games each year from the Steelers, the University of Pittsburgh, and high school playoffs.
"I don’t care how many times you change the surface. It’s not gonna work," Harrison said. He added that the Steelers need their own stadium used only by the team to avoid ongoing field degradation.
The team recently installed Tahoma 31 Bermuda grass, a surface also used by the Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears. Harrison's comments came after the Steelers' home field faced criticism during the prior season, including poor marks in an NFLPA report.
