A Clark Circuit Court judge has dismissed a plea agreement in the case of a man accused of murdering his girlfriend in Indiana. Derek Pixley, 34, was set to plead guilty to reckless homicide with a reduced sentence. The decision clears the way for a trial scheduled later this year.
Clark Circuit Court Judge Nicholas Karaffa rejected the proposed plea agreement this week. The deal would have allowed Pixley to plead guilty to reckless homicide and serve six years in prison, reduced to about three with credit for time served.
The case involves the 2022 shooting death of 29-year-old Brittney Elizabeth Boman in Henryville, Indiana. Boman had a protective order against Pixley at the time. She survived the initial attack for two months and provided details to investigators before dying on Dec. 30, 2022.
Pixley's trial is now set for Nov. 30. Boman's mother, Shawnee Goodman, opposed the plea during the hearing, saying the shooting was not an accident.
