A large fire broke out at the Cipayung Final Disposal Site in Depok on Thursday night, 16 July 2026, around 7:30 p.m. local time. The blaze started at one point and is now undergoing cooling.
Head of the Depok City Environment and Cleanliness Agency Reni Siti Nuraeni said the fire started at one point in the TPA area before spreading to surrounding waste piles.
The cause remains under investigation. Reni stated her team cannot yet confirm the trigger and noted a preliminary suspicion that the fire originated below the waste pile.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze and are now conducting cooling to prevent new sparks. Routine patrols at the site aided localization so the flames did not spread widely.
The size of the affected area has not been confirmed as data collection continues. Garbage trucks queuing to enter the TPA were successfully saved.
