Emmanuel Macron traveled to Bordeaux on Monday to meet forces mobilized against the wildfires. He announced that the fire in the Landes was fixed, while stressing ongoing difficulties in Gironde.
Emmanuel Macron chaired an interministerial crisis cell in Bordeaux on Monday. He stated that the fire that broke out Thursday near Biscarrosse in the Landes was now fixed, after burning 3600 hectares and destroying 198 buildings. Some 8000 of the 30000 evacuated people have been able to return home.
In Gironde, the fire has covered 42000 hectares without advancing in the last 24 hours, but remains virulent and unpredictable. Laurent Nuñez noted it was stabilized but not fixed. Four additional firefighters were injured overnight, bringing the total to 88 injured since the start of the fires.
The president called for unity to win the battle and to replant a forest adapted to climate change. Météo-France confirmed a new heatwave from Tuesday, complicating operations.
