Man charged with murder after ramming 88-year-old in YMCA lot

Authorities in Washington state have charged a 68-year-old man with first-degree premeditated murder after he allegedly used his car to fatally strike an 88-year-old woman in a YMCA parking lot. The incident occurred on February 28 in Bellevue, where the suspect waited before driving into the victim and then over her body. Police say the man continued his attacks later that day in Tacoma.

On February 28, surveillance video captured a white Toyota Camry entering the parking lot of the Bellevue Family YMCA in Bellevue, Washington, at approximately 6:45 a.m. The vehicle made multiple circles before parking, with court documents indicating the driver was "lying in wait for a pedestrian victim."

About an hour later, 88-year-old Shinko Oshino was walking in the lot when the Camry pulled out, aligned with her path, and accelerated toward her. The vehicle struck her, carrying her more than 120 feet on its hood before braking, causing her to fall to the ground. The car then accelerated again and drove over her without stopping, according to investigators. Witnesses reported seeing the car driving fast with the woman on the hood; one described thinking it was a "fake body" that fell before being run over.

Police responded to the scene, where Oshino was pronounced dead. Her identification was found nearby, and YMCA staff assisted in confirming her identity. The driver, identified as 68-year-old Mark Alexander Adams, was later linked to the vehicle.

That same day, Adams reportedly drove south to Tacoma and struck two additional people, fracturing one of their spines. He was arrested on March 1 and faces charges of first-degree premeditated murder and felony hit-and-run, with more charges possible. Adams is scheduled for an arraignment in King County court.

Bellevue is located just east of Seattle across Lake Washington. The case is being handled by local authorities, who described the Camry as used "as a weapon" in the attack.
