Matt Hardy has discussed his decision in 2005 to return to WWE rather than join TNA during a period of personal turmoil. In a recent podcast episode, he considered how his career might have differed if he had made the other choice.
The reflection centers on events from 2005 when Hardy's then-girlfriend Lita cheated on him with Adam Edge Copeland. After being fired amid the backstage issues, Hardy was brought back following fan chants of We Want Matt at WWE shows.
On his podcast The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, he stated that jumping to TNA at the time might have led to a world title. He said, I think I would have been TNA World Champion, noting talks with the promotion but citing stability concerns as a key factor in staying with WWE.
Hardy joined TNA in 2011 and later became a TNA World Tag Team Champion with his brother Jeff. He credited the earlier WWE return with providing needed support during that time.
