Sugarcane farmers in Bungoma County are receiving faster payments after Nzoia Sugar resumed operations. The company has paid over Sh760 million since January 2026. CEO Sohan Sharma confirmed improvements in production and machinery upgrades.
Nzoia Sugar Company resumed sugar production operations in January 2026. Since then it has processed 292980 tonnes of sugarcane and paid growers within two weeks of delivery.
CEO Sohan Sharma said the company launched a machinery improvement plan after being placed under private investor management in May 2025. He added that production has improved along with investment in other products.
Total payments have reached Sh760 million since operations restarted. The changes have brought a new awakening among sugarcane farmers in the area.
