Taita Taveta receives first iron ore shipment at Devki Steel Mill

Taita Taveta County has received its first shipment of raw iron ore from Kishushe Ranch to the new Devki Steel Mills plant in Manga, Voi.

The ceremony took place on Saturday under the leadership of Governor Andrew Mwadime. It marked the start of transporting the minerals to the Sh11 billion factory.

Governor Mwadime said the step signals the beginning of a new era in the county's mining sector. He added that the official launch of the plant by President William Ruto next month will strengthen the area's position as an emerging industrial hub.

Mining operations at Kishushe are expected to generate approximately Sh540 million in annual revenue for the county. The governor explained that processing the minerals locally will create jobs and transform residents' lives.
