Detectives arrested a Nigerian national and Kenyan accomplice in a Ruaka apartment during an anti-narcotics operation on March 15. The raid followed intelligence about a planned drugs exchange in Syokimau, Machakos County, that was abruptly cancelled.
Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) and Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU) launched the operation on credible intelligence. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) stated officers first responded to a suspected narcotics exchange in Syokimau, Machakos County. The planned meeting was aborted, and real-time tips from covert sources redirected them to Mbuti Apartment in Ruaka, Kiambu County. > “Acting on credible intelligence that suspects were planning a narcotics exchange in Syokimau, Machakos County, the team responded swiftly. However, upon arrival, it was established that the planned meeting had been aborted. Based on real-time information from covert sources, the operation was redirected to Ruaka, Kiambu County,” the DCI reported. The search yielded pellets and packages of suspected narcotic drugs, digital weighing scales, several mobile phones, foreign passports, and an undisclosed amount of cash in Kenyan and Nigerian currencies. The suspects were processed at Ruaraka and Pangani Police Stations. They are set to appear in court on March 16. > “The suspects are expected to be arraigned in court today as investigations continue to trace additional suspects and dismantle the wider trafficking network,” the DCI added. Recovered substances have been secured for forensic analysis, with probes ongoing into a possible larger network.
