Police operation in La Legua leads to 21 arrests and injured officer

A major police operation in Santiago's La Legua neighborhood ended with 21 arrests, seizure of over 30 kilograms of drugs and weapons, and one carabineros shot in the leg. Led by the OS-7 with support from other units, the raid is part of an investigation into drug trafficking in the southern Metropolitan Region. The injured officer is stable after surgery.

On the afternoon of Friday, December 12, 2025, police forces raided about 20 homes in La Legua neighborhood, San Joaquín commune, Metropolitan Region. The operation, coordinated by the Southern Metropolitan Prosecutor's Office and carried out by the OS-7 with support from the Air Prefecture, GOPE, patrol cars, and public order control, led to the arrest of 21 people: 16 Chileans and five foreigners, including three Venezuelans, one Dominican, and one Ecuadorian. A 16-year-old minor was also apprehended with weapons and drugs.

General Jaime Velasco, director of the Drug Control and Criminal Investigation Department, stated that 'this investigative process relates to the various interventions that the OS-7 carries out throughout the country, but also in different areas of the RM (...) thus, today, this sector was intervened with the support of various specialized Carabineros units, with the aim of accessing the place.' He added that over 30 kilograms of drugs were seized, including cocaine hydrochloride, cocaine base paste, ketamine, and marijuana.

Seizures included three conventional pistols, a shotgun, a revolver, a drone, bulletproof vests, cash, war ammunition, and two vehicles wanted for theft. Prosecutor Guillermo Adasme from the Southern High Complexity Prosecutor's Office noted that the investigation focuses on drug trafficking in southern zone neighborhoods, and fentanyl was found in one to two ampoules, whose origin is under investigation.

During the procedure, an OS-7 officer was wounded by a ballistic impact in the leg while traveling in a police vehicle. Velasco reported that 'fortunately, the carabineros is in good condition' after treatment at Barros Luco Hospital and helicopter transfer to Carabineros Hospital, where he underwent successful surgery and is stable. The shooter has not been apprehended. The detainees will face detention review from Saturday to Monday.
