President Ruto departs for G7 Summit in France

Kenyan President William Ruto is departing for Evian, France, to represent Africa at the G7 Leaders' Summit. He was invited by French President Emmanuel Macron. The trip was confirmed on June 15, 2026.

President William Ruto is set to depart Kenya later on June 15 for Evian, France. State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohammed confirmed the trip in a statement.

“President William Ruto departs later tonight for Evian, France, at the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron to participate in the G7 Leaders’ Summit, where he will represent Africa and advance the continent’s priorities before the world’s leading economies,” Hussein said.

Ruto will join leaders including U.S. President Donald Trump, Britain's Keir Starmer, and others for talks on economic growth, trade, climate action, security, and technology. The visit follows last month's Africa Forward Summit co-hosted by Kenya and France.

Ruto plans to advocate for global financial reforms and stronger Africa partnerships. He has faced criticism over travel costs but describes himself as Kenya's chief diplomat.
