Ruto and Sifuna clash over suitability of 12-storey affordable housing units

President William Ruto and Senator Edwin Sifuna have sparked a heated debate over the construction of 12-storey affordable housing units in Funyula under the Affordable Housing Programme.

The dispute began after Sifuna questioned the construction during an interview on Mulembe FM radio on Wednesday July 22 2026. He said the units did not match the lifestyle of communities in the area.

Sifuna used a chicken farming analogy saying "They have built 12-storey affordable houses in Funyula. We Luhya people cannot live where our chickens cannot live. Tell me how will your chicken reach the 12th floor?"

President Ruto responded on Thursday July 23 during an event at State House Nairobi.
