Special sub-inspector arrested for accepting bribe in Tirupathur

A special sub-inspector of Alangayam Police Station in Tirupathur district was arrested by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption on Monday after allegedly accepting a ₹5,000 bribe. The complainant was a motorist involved in a road accident case.

Ramakrishnan, the special sub-inspector, allegedly demanded the money from Manjunathan of Ambur to send the vehicle for inspection by the Motor Vehicle Inspector and to release the complainant on station bail.

The complainant approached the DVAC’s Tirupathur detachment and lodged a complaint. Officials registered a case and organised a trap on Monday.

During the trap, Ramakrishnan was caught while receiving the bribe amount. He was arrested and later remanded to judicial custody.
