Taylor Swift was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame on Thursday night at New York’s Marriott Marquis Hotel. The 36-year-old became the youngest female inductee in the institution’s history.
Swift delivered a 21-minute acceptance speech in which she praised emerging artist Sombr, quoted the television series Yellowstone and thanked her family. She became emotional while recalling how her parents and brother moved from Pennsylvania to Nashville when she was 14.
Steven Spielberg introduced Swift at her request and described her as a singular artist whose achievements defy quantification by Artificial Intelligence. Sombr performed Swift’s songs Cardigan and Dear John during the ceremony.
Swift attended the event with her parents, fiancé Travis Kelce and his mother. She is the second-youngest inductee overall after Stevie Wonder, who was 33 at the time of his induction.
