Teenager sentenced for thermos bombs in Uppsala

A 15-year-old boy, who was 14 at the time, has been convicted in Uppsala District Court for placing three thermos bombs in Svartbäcken last autumn. The verdict covers attempted serious public endangerment and a serious breach of the flammable and explosive goods act, but no punishment is imposed due to his age. The incident is linked to organized crime.

In mid-October 2025, three live thermos bombs were found in a densely populated area of Svartbäcken, Uppsala, on the same day as the Uppsala Marathon. A large area was cordoned off, and a VMA public alert urged residents to stay away.

Uppsala District Court convicted the 15-year-old boy of attempting to cause an explosion with the bombs. The offense was deemed serious due to their placement in a residential zone with many people at home. The boy confessed, and the verdict notes a connection to organized crime.

No punishment is issued because the boy was under 15 at the time. A 24-year-old woman from Norrköping faces separate charges for aiding the attempt and involving a minor by handing over the bombs to the boy. She denies the allegations.

The boy's lawyer, Henrik Mansfeld, said of the verdict: "We are not surprised by the ruling; it was expected." They have not yet discussed a possible appeal.
