Voi responds to e-scooter accident statistics

E-scooter accidents rose 28 percent in 2025, according to new statistics from Transportstyrelsen. Voi argues the figures do not tell the full story as they include private e-scooters.

Transportstyrelsen reported that 6 505 people were injured in e-scooter accidents in Sweden last year. The increase was particularly clear among children and young people. Voi policy chief Tina Ghasemi Liljekvist said the statistics cover both rental and private vehicles. She stressed that many accidents occur in municipalities where Voi does not operate. According to Voi the accident risk in its service fell 21 percent in 2025 even though the number of trips rose 55 percent. The company’s vehicles are speed-limited to 20 kilometers per hour. Tina Ghasemi Liljekvist pointed out that private e-scooters are often unregistered and uninsured. She said safety work is the highest priority with a vision of no serious accidents by 2030.
