Waymo to expand fully autonomous rides to four cities

Waymo will soon offer fully autonomous robotaxi rides in Denver, San Diego, Las Vegas and Tampa. The Alphabet-owned company will start with employees before opening the service to the public. These cities will join others already operating without human supervisors.

Alphabet announced the expansion on Wednesday. Waymo vehicles in the four cities will initially carry only company employees. The rides will later become available to other riders.

The new locations join Dallas, Houston, Orlando and San Antonio, bringing the total to more than 10 cities with fully autonomous service. Waymo is also conducting tests in London.

The company has faced past recalls involving construction zones and flooded roads. It competes with firms such as Zoox, which is owned by Amazon.
