Dev Meena and Kuldeep Yadav break pole vault national record

Dev Meena and Kuldeep Yadav improved the pole vault national record to 5.45m during the Federation Cup on day three of the event.

Dev Meena cleared 5.42m to first break the previous national mark of 5.41m. Kuldeep Yadav then cleared 5.45m to set a new record before Meena equalled the height.

Both athletes, who train together at the Madhya Pradesh Academy under coach Ghanshyam Yadav, failed to clear 5.50m. Meena won gold on countback.

The pair has now improved the national record three times this year. They have both cleared the Commonwealth Games qualification mark, though final selection remains with the committee.

Sweden's Armand Duplantis cleared 6.31 metres for a new men's pole vault world record at the Mondo Classic in Uppsala on March 12, 2026—his 15th record break, each by one centimetre. The 26-year-old achieved it on his first attempt at the IFU Arena event named after him, extending his winning streak to 38 competitions.

Armand Duplantis secured his fourth straight indoor world gold in pole vault in Toruń, Poland, after a historic final where Greek Emmanouil Karalis pushed him to a 6.25m jump. It was the best pole vault final in a championship ever, but Duplantis was too tired for a world record attempt. “Grymt kul att ha lite press,” he said.
