Dragon Quest 12 restarts as Beyond Dreams after development reboot

Square Enix revealed major updates for the Dragon Quest series during a 40th anniversary livestream on May 27. The long-awaited Dragon Quest XII has been restarted from scratch with a new subtitle. Two other titles were also announced or updated.

Square Enix addressed delays for the next mainline game during the event. Producer Yosuke Saito said the team was reshuffled and development restarted after hitting hurdles with the original version titled The Flames of Fate. He confirmed the new title is Dragon Quest XII: Beyond Dreams and noted it will take longer than expected to complete, though no release window was given. Saito stated it was the right decision to ensure fans would love the game, standing alongside series creator Yuji Horii.
