Egypt’s health minister met his Kenyan counterpart to explore cooperation on local manufacturing of medicines and vaccines.
Egypt’s Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met Kenyan Health Minister Aden Bare Duale on 16 June 2026. They discussed expanding bilateral ties in public health, pharmaceuticals and medical tourism while stressing the need to boost African production of medicines and vaccines.
Abdel Ghaffar noted that Egypt’s Drug Authority holds World Health Organization Maturity Level 3 status and is advancing toward Level 4. He also highlighted the Vaccine City and Biotechnology Project, which targets around 22 percent of Africa’s vaccine needs with capacity for up to 160 million doses annually.
The ministers agreed to promote technology transfer between Kenya’s BioVax and Egypt’s VACSERA. They further explored joint work on rare diseases, Egypt’s hepatitis C elimination programme, cancer care and the new “Tour n’ Cure” platform for medical tourism.
