Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly opened the fifth edition of the Africa Health Exhibition and Conference on Monday. The four-day event runs from June 15 to 18 in Cairo. Africa CDC Director-General Jean Kaseya highlighted the Ebola epidemic as a major threat during the opening.
Madbouly opened the conference on behalf of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. He met Serbian Prime Minister Djuro Macut before the ceremony. The event is titled “Health Sovereignty in Africa: Leadership, Resilience, and Self-Reliance”.
Kaseya described the Ebola outbreak as the most widespread and dangerous on the continent. He called for unified medical procurement and local production of medicines. He thanked Egypt for sending medical supplies to affected areas.
Egyptian Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar said the gathering supports African health sovereignty. Egyptian Drug Authority Chairperson Ali El-Ghamrawy presented a roadmap to 2030 focused on local manufacturing and exports. The exhibition features over 400 companies and expects more than 45,000 attendees.
