Ethiopian maritime logistics digitization efforts intensify

Ethiopia's Ethiopian Maritime Transport and Logistics (EBTL) is actively working to digitize its logistics services transparently. This system will enable customers to track goods and negotiate prices remotely. CEO Abdulber Shemsu shared these details.

In Addis Ababa, EBTL's Chief Executive Officer Abdulber Shemsu (Eng./Ret.) informed Fana Broadcasting Corporate that the organization is enhancing Ethiopia's global market connections to balance trade income and expenses. Over 40 percent of imported goods to Ethiopia are handled by EBTL, prompting efforts to modernize and digitize these services.

Customers will be able to negotiate prices from their locations and monitor shipments from origin to destination, according to Shemsu. The initiative aims to deliver clear, reliable, efficient, cost-effective, and competitive services. Operating in a competitive environment, EBTL plans to bolster its position by expanding its fleet to fulfill its objectives.

Over the next five years, the company intends to acquire 16 additional vessels, including six this year alone. Currently, it operates more than 70 vessels, including Ethiopian-owned ones on charter, serving 370 ports worldwide. These operations help stabilize Ethiopia's import-export balance, contribute to economic growth, and promote the country's image along their routes.
