Gyeonggi Province launches first survey of 18000 refugees

Gyeonggi Province has launched its first comprehensive survey of 18169 refugees in the region to assess living conditions including housing, education and healthcare.

At a briefing held Thursday at the Gyeonggi Migration and Integration Support Center in Uijeongbu, officials outlined plans for the study. The survey will include quantitative interviews with 130 people and in-depth qualitative sessions with 38 participants.

Survey design and training are set for July, with field research running from August to September and a final report due in October. Kim Sung-hwan, head of the province’s Alien Social Support Division, said ensuring refugees avoid systemic poverty or isolation is vital.

The province established the nation’s first municipal refugee policy advisory committee last month. The study aims to identify gaps in support systems tailored to refugees’ legal status.
