IMD forecasts rain, thunderstorms in parts of Karnataka from April 28

The India Meteorological Department has forecasted scattered rain and possible thunderstorms in parts of Karnataka, including Bengaluru, from April 28 to May 1. Daytime temperatures will stay in the mid-30s Celsius. The prediction follows a prolonged hot and dry spell.

Officials from the India Meteorological Department said on Monday that Bengaluru will see clear to partly cloudy skies until April 27, with daytime temperatures between 35°C and 37°C and nights around 23°C.

From April 28 to May 1, light to moderate rain is likely in isolated areas during afternoons or evenings, accompanied by winds of 40 to 50 kmph. Coastal districts including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada may experience light rain with winds up to 30 to 40 kmph.

Northern interior districts—Belagavi, Dharwad, Haveri, Gadag, Kalaburagi, Yadgir, Raichur, and Koppal—could see rain in isolated pockets, while southern interior areas like Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, and Kodagu may have light showers and gusty winds. Thunderstorms are possible in isolated parts of south interior Karnataka on April 30, with winds up to 30 to 40 kmph.

Bengaluru recorded a high of 36°C on Sunday, above seasonal averages. While pre-monsoon rain has occurred in other parts of Karnataka, the capital has seen little so far. On April 26 evening, a 15-minute storm in Bhadravati taluk of Shivamogga district damaged plantations, uprooting arecanut and coconut trees, and on April 27, Chikkamagaluru reported heavy rain.
