Chihuahua Governor María Eugenia Campos expressed full agreement with President Claudia Sheinbaum to collaborate on U.S. agents operating in the state. Following a meeting with Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch, Campos stressed improving communication channels for better outcomes. Both governments aim to coordinate for national security and sovereignty.
Tensions had arisen between Chihuahua's state government and the federal authorities over U.S. agents operating in Chihuahua territory. In response, Governor Maru Campos acknowledged President Sheinbaum's call “to work together”.
In “La Mañanera del Pueblo”, Sheinbaum revealed that Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch met with Campos to address foreign agents in Chihuahua, where two agents died in an accident alongside two Mexican officials. The meeting covered updates on investigations into a recent operation in Morelos municipality.
Campos stated her “total coincidence with the President of the Republic that governments, regardless of partisan affiliation, must work together for the security of Mexican families and the sovereign integrity of our country, within the framework of our laws and in an environment of trust and institutional coordination”.
The governor thanked Sheinbaum and Harfuch for their openness and reaffirmed her commitment to ongoing communication. “Without a doubt, improving communication channels is the right path to achieve better results”, Campos said, noting that joint efforts have significantly reduced violence from organized crime. Chihuahua reiterates that dialogue with the federal government ensures peace and the rule of law.
