Naomi Osaka blames plantar fasciitis for Wimbledon exit

Naomi Osaka revealed that plantar fasciitis caused discomfort during her straight-sets loss to Karolina Muchova at Wimbledon. The four-time Grand Slam champion received a medical timeout while trailing in the first set. She described the issue as unrelated to her ankle.

Osaka, 28, said the condition surfaced during last year’s off-season and flared again on grass. “It’s not my ankle. I’m just getting old,” she told reporters. “I have plantar fasciitis in my feet. That’s what we assume it is.”

The Japanese player had dealt with the same problem weeks earlier in Bad Homburg, where she retired against Muchova in the final. At Wimbledon she reached her best result at the tournament and recorded her 15th career win over a top-10 opponent.

Osaka noted she may adjust her schedule for future grass-court swings after playing two consecutive weeks without rest. She now shifts focus to the hard-court season leading to the US Open.
