On december 19, 2025, the independent national electoral commission (inec) convened a meeting with the two contending factions of the peoples democratic party (pdp) ahead of federal capital territory (fct) polls. This comes amid a prolonged internal crisis rocking the opposition party.
The national working committee (nwc) of the pdp, led by tanimu turaki, san, declared that they will continue undertaking their duties pending a court ruling on the factional dispute.
Former senate president bukola saraki addressed the crisis, stating that it would be resolved within the next few months. He emphasized, "we’re going nowhere," signaling commitment to staying within the party despite the divisions.
