Indonesia's Attorney General's Office (Kejagung) has named Hery Susanto as a suspect in an alleged corruption case involving nickel mining governance from 2013 to 2025. Investigators are now pursuing a mysterious figure suspected of giving him Rp1.5 billion in gratifications. The Ombudsman RI has apologized for the incident while assuring that public service oversight functions will continue uninterrupted.
Indonesia's Attorney General's Office officially named Hery Susanto, Chairman of Ombudsman RI, as a suspect on Thursday, April 16, 2026. The designation followed the Jaksa Agung Muda Tindak Pidana Khusus team gathering sufficient evidence on alleged corruption in nickel mining trade governance in Southeast Sulawesi.
"The Jampidsus investigation team has designated Brother HS as a suspect in the alleged criminal corruption case in nickel mining trade governance activities from 2013 to 2025," said Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, Director of Investigation at Jampidsus Kejagung.
The case originated from PT TSHI's issue with non-tax state revenue calculations by the Ministry of Forestry. The company allegedly involved Hery Susanto, then an Ombudsman Commissioner, to issue a recommendation altering government policy. Hery is suspected of receiving Rp1.5 billion in return, which annulled the ministry's initial policy.
Kejagung investigators are now focused on tracking the fee giver. "We're still looking for (the fee giver)," Nahdi said on Friday, April 17, 2026. PT TSHI remains under investigation and not yet named a suspect.
Ombudsman RI issued an apology via press release. "Ombudsman RI Leadership for 2026-2031 expresses apologies for public discomfort and regrets this incident," they stated. The institution affirmed respect for the legal process and that public service oversight functions remain normal.
