Sandra Cuevas reports surveillance and requests protection from Harfuch

Former Cuauhtémoc mayor Sandra Cuevas stated that her life is in danger due to constant surveillance for three weeks at her home and businesses, and requested protection from Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch. In a video posted on social media, she held Ricardo Monreal and Alessandra Rojo de la Vega responsible for any mishap. Cuevas denied ties to organized crime and alleged a plot to frame her.

Sandra Cuevas, former mayor of Cuauhtémoc, posted a video on her social media addressed to Omar García Harfuch, the Federal Government's Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, detailing her sense of threat. According to Cuevas, for the past three weeks, unknown individuals have followed her, taken photographs, and lingered for hours near her home in Santa María la Ribera, as well as her businesses: the Sandra Cuevas Galería de Arte at Gutenberg 39 in the Anzures neighborhood, and a restaurant she plans to open in the same area. These incidents have been recorded by her private security team and surveillance cameras.

In the video, Cuevas stated: “They have been observing for hours, taking photographs, and following me when I move places. This seems alarming to me. It's been three weeks already.” She directly pointed to two political figures as potential culprits: Morena federal deputy Ricardo Monreal Ávila and current Cuauhtémoc mayor Alessandra Rojo de la Vega, whom she called her “enemies.” She claimed Monreal is upset because she did not support his daughter Catalina Monreal's candidacy for the mayoralty, and that Rojo de la Vega holds a grudge over public criticisms against her.

Cuevas categorically denied any criminal ties. Regarding Alejandro Mendoza, alias ‘El Choko,’ she clarified that their relationship was solely sentimental and brief. On Giovanni Mata, known as ‘El Topo’ and an alleged member of La Unión Tepito, she acknowledged that he worked with her during her administration but insisted there were no signs of his criminal involvement at the time. “The arrest of Giovanni Mata was an attack against me,” she maintained, and requested a review of the circumstances of his detention.

She also mentioned public encounters with ‘Benoni’ and ‘Cariguante,’ detainees linked to crime, but limited to two occasions at events like a motorcycle ride in September past, with no deaths or deep connections. Finally, she alleged a supposed plan by investigative police elements to plant drugs or weapons in her vehicle to facilitate her arrest. “Police who respect me have told me they are planning a hit: to detain me and plant drugs and weapons,” she claimed, reiterating her request for federal protection.
